Aviara's Holidays Run on Two Clocks, and They Meet on December 12

October 29, 2026

At 10 a.m. on a Saturday in November, the action in Aviara is at the end of Gabbiano Lane. That's where the Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation brings a guest speaker or a docent to the north shore of the lagoon. At 3 p.m. on a December weekday, it has moved up the hill to the lower-level ballroom at Park Hyatt Aviara. There, groups capped at 45 people step into a staged Christmas experience on timed entry.

These two calendars belong to the same neighborhood, and they almost never overlap. The lagoon season is outdoors and called off if it rains. The resort season is ticketed, indoors, and limited by capacity. From mid-November through December 26, 2026, they share exactly one date. Everything else on the calendar falls on one side or the other, and each side has its own catch.

The lagoon side keeps Saturday mornings

The Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation calls itself the only organization whose sole mission is to preserve, protect and enhance Batiquitos Lagoon. The late-fall programs on its current upcoming-events list all start at 10 a.m. on a Saturday, and each one is built around a specific guest or route.

  • Saturday, November 14: The Kumeyaay Through Time. This one is for Native American Heritage Month. Jennifer Stone, Assistant Curator at Barona Cultural Center & Museum, covers the history of the Barona People before and after contact, the three waves of newcomers to the land, and the Kumeyaay traditions that continue today, including the Creation Story. Ages 5 and up.
  • Saturday, November 21: The Kumeyaay Trail. The foundation describes this as a moderately strenuous, docent-led hike up a rarely visited trail. It asks for a hat, hiking boots and water.
  • Saturday, December 12: Walk Among the Stars. John Walsh, a Volunteer Park Ranger in San Marcos, leads a hands-on daytime session on planning your own star walk with basic astronomy tools. He'll focus on the winter planets, constellations and meteor showers coming up in December and January. Ages 5 and up.

The two November dates go together. The talk on the 14th gives the history, and the hike a week later follows a trail named for the same people. If you only have time for one, the order still matters: sitting through a talk takes no gear, while the hike needs boots and some stamina.

The catch on this side is weather and parking. The foundation says all events are outdoors and will be canceled if it rains. The Nature Center is at 7380 Gabbiano Lane, and the public trail along the north shore runs 2.7 miles. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife puts trail access at the end of Gabbiano Lane, south of Batiquitos Drive. Its directions run along Poinsettia Lane, south on Batiquitos Drive, then right onto Gabbiano. The department also warns that public parking at the reserve is very limited. If you live within walking distance, you have a clear edge on a 10 a.m. Saturday.

The resort side runs from Thanksgiving brunch into December evenings

Park Hyatt Aviara's season starts on Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 26. The restaurants split the day by hour, which matters if your household includes both early risers and people who'd rather eat late:

  1. 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.: the resort's Thanksgiving brunch buffet, listed from $65.
  2. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Thanksgiving brunch at Ember & Rye, listed from $65.
  3. 4 to 8:30 p.m.: a three-course prix-fixe Thanksgiving dinner at Ponto Lago, listed from $50.
  4. 5 to 8:30 p.m.: Thanksgiving dinner specials at Ember & Rye, with the regular dinner menu still available.

The Ponto Lago dinner is listed $15 below either brunch. Ember & Rye's evening option is a specials menu offered next to the regular one, so it isn't a fixed-price commitment. If you want turkey without a set menu, that's the one built for you. The resort's dining pages list Ponto Lago, Ember & Rye and Pacific Point as its current restaurants.

Two weeks later, the ballroom becomes the center of the season.

Stocking Full of Christmas, season two

Stocking Full of Christmas comes from Royal Entertainers, and its creator and executive producer is founder Brittany Skipper. Guests walk through five themed rooms: the Red & Gold Grand Entry, the Frozen Room, Santa's Toy Shop, Mrs. Claus's Confectionery and Santa's Secret Living Room. Along the way there are live characters, stocking stuffers, treats and a visit with Santa. The organizer counts 2025 as the first season and says the resort built its whole 2025 holiday program around the event, so this December is year two.

The 2026 dates are December 10 to 13, December 16 to 23, and December 26. Timed entry runs from about 3 to 8 p.m., and a visit takes roughly an hour to an hour and a half. Here's how the pricing works:

Dates Adult or child VIP
December 10, 16 and 17 $50 $95
All other 2026 dates $65 $110

Prices are per person, before fees. Adults and children pay the same, and the child ticket includes a stocking. Adults can add one for $20, and children 18 months and under get in free. If you're local and your schedule is flexible, the value nights stand out. December 10 is a Thursday, December 16 a Wednesday and December 17 a Thursday, so all three discounted dates fall on weekdays. Choosing one of them over a weekend date saves $15 per person, or $60 for a family of four on general admission.

Capacity sets the pace here, much as weather does at the lagoon. Each slot holds 45 guests, VIP is limited to 10 per slot, and the organizer says popular dates and times do sell out. Rain doesn't matter, since the event is indoors. Parking at the resort is $20 for valet or self-park, and the address is 7100 Aviara Resort Drive.

The organizer's resort page lists other 2025 programs: a tree lighting on the event's first night, a Holiday Garden Party, a holiday market, Tea with Santa, and dining on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Eve. The resort hosts and tickets those separately, and the page sends visitors to the resort's own site for the 2026 schedule. As of late October, the Park Hyatt Aviara events calendar is the place to watch. Last year's lineup is useful for knowing what to look for, but it isn't a 2026 schedule.

December 12, the one shared date

Put the two calendars side by side and one Saturday sits in both columns.

Date Lagoon, 10 a.m. Resort
Sat., Nov. 14 The Kumeyaay Through Time None
Sat., Nov. 21 The Kumeyaay Trail hike None
Thu., Nov. 26 None Thanksgiving brunch and dinner
Thu., Dec. 10 None Stocking Full of Christmas opens, value night
Sat., Dec. 12 Walk Among the Stars Stocking Full of Christmas
Wed., Dec. 16, and Thu., Dec. 17 None Value nights
Sat., Dec. 26 None Final date

On December 12 you could do the morning session on winter planets and constellations at the lagoon, then head up the hill for a timed entry that starts around 3 p.m. at the earliest. Both events are open to ages 5 and up or younger, so the same family can attend both. Rain can cancel the morning, while the evening can sell out. If December 12 is the day you want, book the Stocking Full of Christmas tickets first. That's the half that can run out.

The weekday traffic note

One thing changes the drive for part of the neighborhood. The City of Carlsbad's Poinsettia Lane Sewer Improvements project started in June 2026 and is expected to finish in spring 2027. Crews are replacing 2,560 feet of pipe beneath Poinsettia Lane with larger pipe and rehabilitating 35 maintenance holes. That work runs along Poinsettia between Alicante Road and El Fuerte Street, on El Fuerte between Poinsettia and Gateway Road, and in the Bressi Ranch Village Center.

The city says westbound lanes on Poinsettia will be affected, the westbound bike lane closes to cyclists during working hours, and El Fuerte will have short-term lane closures. Regular hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, with some night work announced to nearby residents ahead of time.

That timing lines up neatly with the two calendars. The Saturday lagoon mornings fall outside posted work hours. The weekday Stocking Full of Christmas slots, value nights included, start around 3 p.m., which overlaps the last couple of hours of the work day. If you're coming west from the El Fuerte or Bressi Ranch side for an early weekday slot, give yourself extra time, as the city advises. And if you're making a day of it on that side of Poinsettia, Taste Craft Eatery is now open in Bressi Ranch, at the 2668 Gateway Road location San Diego Magazine reported in February.
